With child obesity figures steadily rising worldwide, one particular school unfirom retailer is now beginning to adopt an embracive approach, expanding its range of school uniforms to accommodate size 18 pupils.

According to figures, the demand for oversized black trousers has risen dramatically since their release last Monday.

Plus size pupils

According to an M&S spokesperson, the majority of size 16 trousers have been sold out. Its Plus Fit range which has been placed on its website is targeted at 3-16 year olds. Blazers and trousers are given up to 23 inch waist lines and some clothing goes up to an adult size 18.

The fact is, 1 in 4 children are now clinically obese by the time they even reach the classroom. Tam Fry from the National Obesity Forum claims: “The fact that M&S has launched such a range is surely a testament to just how bad the child obesity pandemic has become.

It’s our opinion that whilst plus size children need to be catered for, it should surely be a wakeup call. The truth is that whilst stores like Marks & Spencer are obviously cashing in on the child obesity crisis, schools and parents and the government alike should be reacting to such steep rises in obese pupils.

The news also comes at a time when the media has begun to look into whether modern cultures have played their part in the increase in child obesity cases.

Exercise and nutritional diets are of vital importance for the development of children.
