Obese men 'losing sight of genitals'

The belly of an obese man who needs to lose weight

Men in Britain are becoming so overweight, 1 in 10 are now unable to see their genitals.

The remarkable news comes from a study carried out by OnePoll. The survey questioned 2,000 men about piling on the pounds and revealed that 43% of the 1 in 10 had been unable to see their manhood for 2 years, without looking in a mirror or bending over.

About 20% admitted rarely paying attention to what they eat. When they did lose weight, it was often inspired by worries about the appearence of 'man boobs'. Sex was another concern - 35% only considered losing weight if their belly got in the way of love-making.

Over half said it would take a serious and stern warning from a doctor before they'd take action. Another 21% said being unable to do their shoe laces up would motivate them to diet.

"It's apparent that some British men take a relaxed approach to health and losing weight," says psychotherapist Mandy Cassidy. "Men should be looking at maintaining a healthy lifestyle at all times, not waiting for an obvious change to motivate them into action."

Waiting for an obesity cure

It seems like some British men are holding out for an obesity cure. But will an obesity cure ever really be invented?

A miracle cure free of side effects could be a long way off. Xenical is perhaps the nearest the medical community has come. Xenical stops your body from absorbing fat. But it can cause side effects, and only has a modest overall impact on your size.

Some people see surgery as an obesity cure. But surgery doesn't work for everyone, and is only useful for people who are severely overweight.

The truth is, there is no single 'obesity cure'. Yet by eating healthily, keeping active, and maintaining a good attitude, there really is no limit to how much weight you can lose.
