Pilates holidays - bending over backwards to lose that weightAdded on 01/03/10 Author: James Congdon – Editor
Pilates has long been established as both a healthy pursuit, and a great way to keep in shape. Celebrities and health fanatics alike are beginning to praise the ever popular exercise method which is primarily designed to elongate and to strengthen the core muscles of the body. Health experts believe that it is an effective form of weight loss, provided it is accompanied with a balanced diet and adequate levels of other physical activity. Health experts have attributed Pilates with healthier lifestyles, greater body balance and even healthier sex lives. However, the ability to attend designated studios amongst hectic, busy work schedules is often far from achievable. One particular Pilates expert has cottoned onto this, and after careful deliberation, has come up with a novel solution which caters for the Pilates fanatic who also enjoys unwinding in the sun. Daniella Ehrlich is a Pilates instructor who moved to the UK in 2003. After working in the industry for many years, Daniella had come to the conclusion that whilst Pilates had fast become a popular outlet for people looking to unwind and keep fit, the fact that a large proportion of her clients were in need of respite from the rat race provided her with inspiration and Elysium Retreats was born. Pilates in the sun “Elysium Retreats is great for anybody who is looking for a short break, away from the hustle and bustle of work schedules” said Ehrlich. Essentially, she offers 5 star luxuries in a variety of picturesque locations across the world including Cyrpus, Barbados and Australia. Fun for all ages Daniella is all too aware that whilst schools are being called to account for the current obesity crisis, with 1 in 4 children of schooling age now obese, children could well benefit from something like Elysium Pilates. Schools across the world have begun to introduce it into the curriculum and Daniella’s brain child may well be an effective extension of this and she argues “Pilates is not just for adults. Most of our Elysium retreats offer facilities for children, meaning that they are not only kept entertained, away from the Television and the computer, in a healthy environment, but it will allow parents to relax and enjoy their break”. Daniella also believes that her retreats are ideal for couples without children, and a great way to unwind together. She believes that many people subscribe to a misconception that Pilates is more popular with women. This in her opinion could not be further from the truth. She claims that a large number of men are referred to her by their doctors for a variety of reasons, from poor health and cholesterol, to painful joints. “They soon become hooked", she says. City life can cause our health to deteriorate Aside from the lime scale affecting our hair, and the pollution damaging our skin, Daniella feels that city lifestyles can often affect our weight. “Everything is so fast paced that many of us don’t have time to think about our bodies. This in my opinion is a common contributor to the current obesity crisis. Being able to condition our bodies, in gorgeous, tranquil surroundings will certainly do no harm”. She also believes that the 5 star retreats are great for singles, as they would allow them to meet like minded people in the most beautiful of surroundings. We at WeightWorld believe that this new concept is no bad thing and could potentially serve as the ideal incentive for people to adopt new, healthier exercise regimes. |
