exercise next to money

Women who dedicate much of their lives to losing weight are spending huge amounts of money in order to shed the pounds, new research has revealed. The survey, conducted at the website engagemutual.com, revealed that British women who diet regularly spend over £25,000 in their lifetimes

The most recent obesity statistics revealed that around 25% of British people are obese, meaning that they have a body mass index BMI over 30. Around 34% of women in the UK are classed as overweight, and it is widely believed that dieting has become increasingly more common amongst British women

The survey found that women who are aiming to lose weight attempt to follow a diet around three times per year. Some diets can be maintained for months at a time, whilst others can end after only a short period of time. The survey found that the average diet lasted around 19 days. 90% of the women questioned revealed that they were enthusiastic on the first day of the diet. However around two thirds will have broken their diet by the 5th day according to the research.

Spending

The results revealed that during the 19 days of dieting women will spend an average of £180.81. This money will be spent on a number of dietary aids. Around £19 will be spent on gym membership, and a further £19 spent on equipment for the home. An extra £38 is estimated to be spent of new exercise clothes and trainers. Perhaps most surprisingly, an extra £27 will be spent on special slimming foods.

Difficult

Tina Clare of engagemutual.com responded to the findings, saying that “women tend to go all out in a bid to shed pounds. But sticking to a restricted diet for any length of time is difficult”. Mrs Clare advised dieters that it is “better to introduce a more realistic routine involving regular exercise and healthy eating”.
