How to get through your holiday when you're on a diet
How to survive a holiday
Few tips for those who want to have fun, but stay fit and healthy... Well, maybe healthy it’s a big word but a bit healthier than a typical person on holiday.
Let’s face it, when you go on holiday, you really want to enjoy yourself. Usually we pick something exotic or just different to the place where we come from. Some of us are going back to their roots and visit their family. Doesn’t matter which direction you choose, trust me – you don’t want to be on diet! Where you can have better quesadilla or margarita than in Mexico? Or where can you find better tasting curry than in India (ok, England is famous for that as well)? When on holiday it’s good to be relaxed and rest not only from work but from your diet as well. But remember, don’t go too crazy. You don’t want to end up with stomach problems and ruin everything that you where working on so hard. How to do that? Here are some simple tips.
• Sleep more. Sounds easy? Well, for some people lack of sleep is a big problem. My client, Marilyn works in investment banking. She sleeps around 4-6 hours a day. „Even when I was going out for a party, I was waking up at 8 am! This is so annoying!“. Open the window, get some fresh air. Remember about supplements like magnesium: take two pills every night. If you are going far away, take melatonin (sleep hormone) to reduce jet lag. • Pick something. If it’s a short holiday – for example 3 days – ice cream or burger is not going to kill you. If you are going for a proper holiday, enjoy your food but try to pick things that you really like and still have few healthy meals. Frozen yoghurt for desert? Few margaritas on the beach? Fine, have for your breakfast egg omelette, fish with greens or chicken with vegetables for lunch and enjoy your desert and cocktails. • Try to stay active. You don’t to spend the time in the gym on your holiday? Fair enough. I wouldn’t like to do that either. What can you do instead? Grab your boyfriend and take him for a long, romantic walk on the beach. Single? Go by yourself and look for some handsome surfer Or even better: take some lesson and learn how to surf. Still not convinced? There is nothing better than swimming in the ocean or lake in the middle of the wood. You can take your friends to the park and play Frisbee, volleyball, tennis. It’s up to you.
I must admit that I just came back from my holiday from Texas. Sleeping normal hours was my first goal! Do you think I resigned from Mexican food, margaritas and lovely Texan ribs? No! I had some much fun eating it! And you know what? After I came back after 9 amazing and tasty days and I realised that it was great (or ‘awesome’ as my American friends would say!) but really missed my fish! How crazy is that?
