This
is how Xenical works, If you eat excessive amounts of fat or calories,
the excess is stored as fat by the body, resulting in weight gain. When
you eat fat your body breaks it down into simple components so that it
can be digested. There are many weight loss pills available, both
prescription only medications and herbal medications that work in the
brain or central nervous system to suppress appetite or speed up
metabolism. Xenical blocks one third of the fat in the food you eat
from being digested.
Enzymes in
your digestive system, called lipases, help digest or break down fat.
When taken with meals, Xenical attaches to the lipases to stop them
from breaking down the fat by as much as a third.
The
undigested fat can not be absorbed and is excreted from the body.
Xenical is prescribed to treat obese people with a body mass index
(BMI) greater than or equal to 30. Xenical should only be used in
conjunction with a low calorie diet. Your doctor may ask you to stop
taking Xenical if you have been unable to lose at least five per cent
of your body weight after 12 weeks of treatment. |
